Kiev-30 ‘Spy Camera’
The Kiev-30 is a small soviet ‘spy camera’. It is really sturdy and has a nice push/pull mechanism for advancing the film.
It uses unperforated 16mm film, which can be loaded into a reusable cartridge. 16mm film is not particularly available, so a common solution is to split regular 35mm film. Commercial devices were available for this purpose but they are quite rare and hard to acquire. I built a splitter using a couple of razor blades, a few bolts and some scrap wood. It’s a bit crude but it works pretty well.
To process the split film I modified a 35mm film reel. More info here.
